Faroes - The Ground
There are 2 possibilities for the game -
Tórsvøllur Stadium in Tórshavn or Svangaskard Stadium in Toftir. These are
the only 2 pitches in Faroes that have natural grass - due to the weather in
Faroes the other pitches are Astroturf. The Gundadalur Stadium has a
capacity of 8,200 but sadly is Astroturf.
Tórsvøllur Stadium in Tórshavn was built in 1999 but wasn't "officially"
ready when Scotland played in the Faroes in 2001. The official line was
that the press facilities weren't up to UEFA standards - although Germany we're
able to play there a few months after us. The rumour was that the Faroes
team manager though the Scottish players wouldn't handle the 2 hour bus journey
well. He was right! (drew 2-2)
There is also a faint murmur that the game may not actually be played in
Faroes at all. The game may be played in Denmark. This will depend
on the weather and available daylight. The game is likely to be played in
the evening.

Toftir is a small town about 2 hours drive from the capital Torshaven.
The ground is carved into the side of a mountain about a mile from
Toftir and as such is very exposed to the wind and rain. The walk
to the ground is up the side of the mountain and you should allow at
least 45 mins for the stiff walk.
There are regular bus services that pass through Toftir, but on our last
visit they stopped at 6pm. |
